MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, activates AMPK (5′-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase) pathways to improve insulin sensitivity, glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, and metabolic flexibility. SS-31 (Elamipretide) selectively binds to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing cristae structure, reducing oxidative damage, and optimizing electron transport chain efficiency for better ATP production. Their complementary mechanisms of metabolic signalling (MOTS-c) and structural membrane protection (SS-31) provide synergistic mitochondrial support.
